Teglio to Bormio
I needed strong coffee this morning to wake up the dozy antihistamine filled body, but it just needed to sit on the bike and not do very much for the first 5km downhill. The weather forecast was pessimistic but amazingly again we managed to avoid getting wet.
The rest of the ride was then a slog uphill but it was finished by lunchtime. There was an option to climb Passo di Gavia this afternoon but every part of my body vociferously declined, my aim is to make it all the way to Rome with no need for extra climbs!

Bormio is a popular winter sports resort and a great place to have a relaxed wander. Someone must be spending hours deadheading all the petunias and geraniums.

My personal version of an afternoon achievement was a delightful two hour nap followed by another delicious gelato.
I had a stroll around the rather beautiful and affluent town surrounded by huge, glowering mountains. We will be climbing up Stelvio tomorrow morning.
I resisted the temptation to buy a Stelvio cycling jersey and went for the culture instead. The octagonal baroque church was stunning inside with frescoes in the dome.
Dinner is in the hotel tonight, hopefully less cheese based and I’m already looking forward to returning to my comfy nest of a bed, I’m definitely more of a sleepy bear than a social party animal!

Meanwhile, the morning’s route was beautiful and more than enough of a climb.
