Semur-en-Auxois to Autun
Robert Peston’s new political thriller is very good, but I managed one sentence before conking out last night after a suitably filling dinner. In theory that should mean that I woke up raring to go, but I had seen the hill profile for today and it was forecast to be hot.

I cycled all morning with lovely Alison from Aspen who has proper mountain climbing legs. Alison sees a hill and accelerates whilst I puff along behind!

The scenery has now changed into wooded, rolling hills with Christmas tree plantations rather than sunflowers.
Bob posed at a number of scenic spots, also known as me taking a breather.

One of the spikes on the hill profile was the first col of the trip, most definitely not the last.
After lunch the temperature started to really climb and again with apologies to the ancient Romans and thanks to modern navigation technology, I did another sneaky shortcut rather than climbing to the Bibracte museum.
After a very long nap, I eventually forced the knackered body out for a stroll around the historic city.

The hotel is a bit half asleep but it’s in a beautiful setting and dinner was just what the hungry tree trunks needed.

I still arrived at the hotel in Autun knackered and sweaty and was told the bar is closed so no cold beer - outrageous!
