Salons-les-Bains to Montreux
That was a rather hard day! Not much alcohol was bring consumed by the group last night and lots of boiled eggs were devoured at breakfast. Sadly we said goodbye to Neil who headed off to Geneva airport, his infectious good humour and entertaining stories will be missed.

The Swiss border was suitably mysterious, I think this hut might have been the customs post.
The scenery, architecture and constant sound of cow bells were definitely alpine and I started to really enjoy myself once the legs had settled into a happy rhythm.

The road into Montreux descended through vineyards with a spectacular view of Lac Leman. By this point, 6 hours into the ride, my bum was properly protesting but I told it to shut up and kept pedalling along surprisingly crappy cycle paths.

The Hotel Eden Palace Au Lac has an air of faded grandeur and my room has a rusting balcony with a gorgeous view.
A very brief wander after the post bike routine, continuing the theme of enthusiastic calorie replenishment.
The ride had a particularly evil start, straight up a climb with 12% bits and 3000ft of climbing in the first 30 miles. Coffee stop was at a boulangerie and I made the most of the last opportunity to devour an almond croissant in France.
We were in the Jura mountains and fortunately it was much cooler than yesterday. It was a jacket on/off day with a boiled chicken result on one climb where I couldn’t be bothered to take it off.
