Beaune to Salins-les-Bains

Today was about getting to the mountains, with a flat ride across the plains east towards Switzerland.

I happily chatted away to Alison for the 1st 30 miles until coffee stop, then had a short break and a short lunch stop to get the miles done before it got too hot - 30c was forecast today which is hard work with tired legs.

The scenery dramatically changed from flat, arable land to the first lumps of the Jura mountains.

Arbois is in the Jura wine region, was the home of Louis Pasteur and was the start of a 4 mile climb.

As always, I had to convince myself that my legs can climb, but once I was spinning and puffing my way up, the confidence began to return.
The descent into Salins-les-Bains was at my usual sedate pace unlike my braver cycling companions who flew down it.
I did the usual post ride routine, including a cheeky nap, then headed out for a wander around the town, known for its saline waters - clue is in the name!
