Autun to Beaune

I managed a whole chapter of my book last night thanks to my very long afternoon nap and woke up feeling almost human. It helps that today is a semi rest day with a shorter ride and a later 9am start, plenty of time for a leisurely coffee with a view.

It was group photo in kit day so we pedalled off to a Roman amphitheatre looking collectively very orange.

The ride was delightful, mostly on quiet cycle paths through beautiful countryside.

The coffee stop was in Nolay with an impressive 14th century market place.

We were then into the Burgundy vineyards on the Grand Cru route with lots of electric bike tourists of a certain age. They will need plenty of euros to sample the wine.

Alison took a photo of me drafting a vineyard tractor!

Meursault has a suitably impressive town hall, presumably the local tax revenue is quite high.

We arrived in Beaune at lunchtime and the hotel is opposite a boulangerie - time for a peaceful picnic in the park with the ducks before a wander around the town sights.

I am now writing this sitting upright attempting to stay awake…
