Arabba to Belluno

Not the best day today, the sunny weather deserted us and it was a misty, murky start to the ride.

We were still very much in the Dolomites and I’m sure the views were spectacular out there somewhere.

I was doing ok up to the coffee break and the climbing was going well up to the first col. I had a cuddle with this gorgeous cafe dog and set off on the descent, wearing all my layers.

The descent was just miserable, it was steep and wet with an uneven surface and I was shivering and sore by the time I eventually reached the bottom after 8 horrible miles. I turned a corner and went straight into a 10% climb which didn’t get much easier all the way up the Passo Duran.

Lunch was at the top of the pass and I thawed/dried out in front of a lovely fire.

We had been warned that the descent would have a bad road surface with awkward and unexpected switchbacks and by now it was pouring rain. I eventually decided to get in the van, planning to get back on my bike at the bottom of the descent but the weather was just too revolting. The guides looked after us all really well today with everyone making their own decisions as to what they were able to do. I am completely knackered!
